Timeless Classics Extend A Time Honored Family Tradition |

When her young peers were going wild for rock n roll, Alexis Gershwin was singing 40s and 50s styled love ballads at parties and proms. She says, “Ever since I was a little girl, this is the only music I’ve ever wanted to sing. It touches my heart like nothing else.” The music star niece of George and Ira Gershwin, Alexis’ love for timeless classics is more than skin deep. She has indeed inherited the rich talents of her famous uncles, as a performer and vocalist. From sultry show tunes to soaring ballads, Ms. Gershwin commands full range of her vocal talent. The Legendary Mr. Blackwell referred to her as, “An absolute beauty with a voice like a thousand angels.” And while at home in almost any genre, the twinkle in her eye remains fixated on her first love – jazz and blues. Legendary music from Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and of course her Uncles George and Ira Gershwin have remained an integral part of her repertoire throughout her career. Headlining in concert halls all over the world to sold-out crowds including recent performances in southern California from her sold-out performances at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center and at a performing arts theatre in Thousand Oaks CA, Gershwin continues to entertain audiences of all ages young and old. Discovered by Bumps Blackwell (who also discovered Quincy Jones, Lou Rawls, and Little Richard) who worked with Alexis until his untimely death, Alexis says, “He was a great man and really inspired me to get it together and believe in myself.” A devoted mom to her sons and her cats, Alexis has boundless energy and is always creating. Her recent CD, GERSHWIN SINGS GERSHWIN, which made music history being the first Gershwin to record Gershwin, was such a hit radio stations nationwide play her music daily from this project.

Legendary music producer Billy Terrell took THE MAN I LOVE track from that project and turned it into a disco version and it went to number #4 on the Billboard Dance charts making music history for a second time. This version of the song is played in clubs worldwide today. Former Billboard Magazine editor Paul Grein who currently writes the weekly music charts for yahoo.com says “Alexis manages to bring something fresh and new to her uncles’ music, she sings with ebullience, charm, combining a jazz singer’s penchant for idiosyncratic phrasing, an actresses flair for the dramatic and a comedienne’s comic sensibility, no small feat for songs that have been recorded hundreds of times. This CD is a winner. A loving tribute to George and Ira Gershwin, like no one else could do. Gershwin tours the world doing her tribute show to her uncles.” Alexis has created a line of skin care called “THE MAGIC COLLECTION” this line of four special facial creams with luxury packaging will be available this year. Alexis was close to her uncle Ira, had dinner with him weekly and remembers his weekly dinner parties with the likes of Groucho Marx, Oscar Levant, and Karl Malden to name a few. Alexis Gershwin music takes us back to a quieter, sweeter time marked by poetic and audible lyrics. Ask Ms. Gershwin if romantic love songs will make a comeback and she will say, “They never left.” Gerhswin continues, “There will always be room for romantic music, because people always need to be reminded that they are loved, and that’s what being a Gershwin is all about.”
